APPRENTICESHIP- TEXTILE CARE OPERATIVE STANDARD

OBJECTIVES

The Textile Services Association (TSA) facilitates the Apprenticeship Trailblazer group to develop and maintain the Commercial Laundry Operative Apprenticeship Standard. This apprenticeship programme was first established in partnership with the Institute of Apprenticeships for the laundry industry in 2018 and further reviewed and approved in 2022 (as part of an ongoing review schedule for engineering and manufacturing route of standard).

The UK industrial sectors are facing a severe shortage of staff combined with challenging levels of retention. The Laundry industry invested resources and expertise since 2015 to combat such levels of staff shortage through reliable routes such as UK apprenticeship programmes.

WHAT IS THE APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME?

An apprenticeship is a paid job where the employee learns and gains valuable experiences. Alongside on-the-job training, apprentices spend at least 20% of their working hours completing classroom-based learning with a college, university or training provider which leads to a nationally recognised qualification.

Apprenticeships are an exciting paid option for anyone wanting to gain experience, upskill or change career because they offer the chance to earn a wage whilst they work and study. There are many benefits to an employee completing an apprenticeship, which include:
• experience and skills development
• a nationally recognised qualification (with no tuition fees)
• employee benefits and a wage
• exposure to industry professionals

The apprenticeship programme has evolved to be a more flexible and inclusive route to good-quality training. One of the main benefits for employers is that the scheme extends to the current workforce as well as new recruits with no upper age limits. As the industry association, we have developed a standard and supported the development of training material on behalf of the industry.

Please make use of this route to recruit and retain staff. To find out more, please contact the TSA team or our training provider.
